Motion Desktop 1.3 released!

Version 1.3 – October 15, 2026
Requirements
This version requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.
New Feature:Add photos, videos, and live albums from Apple Photos to the playback queue.
New Feature:Keep selected Media Archive items and collections available offline, protected from automatic cache cleanup.
Enhancement:Shuffle albums, shuffle within albums, or mix all media without repeats until a cycle finishes.
Enhancement:Random Zoom & Pan automatically chooses gentle movement and zoom levels for each picture and its display duration. Newly added media plays once unless another default is selected in Settings.
Bug Fix:Improved live-folder updates, queue position tracking, importing, scene transitions, and download-cache recovery.
Bug Fix:Kept offline media remains playable across saved queues when its archive entry is unavailable. File pickers and failed thumbnails now recover more reliably.
Bug Fix:Background music keeps its last working copy during archive updates and preserves fades when the queue changes.
Bug Fix:Improved Photos loading during library changes and corrected shared cache usage displays.
Bug Fix:Corrected Apple Photos access in sandboxed builds and improved cancellation and loading of Photos media.
Enhancement:Drag Apple Photos albums and selected media into Playback Queue. Larger album icons identify regular and Smart Albums, and the browser updates automatically.
Enhancement:Made Photos browsing, searching, and live queue updates more responsive for large collections, with stable selections and cached thumbnails.
Enhancement:Reduced background Photos activity and unnecessary Smart Folder work when library contents have not changed.
Bug Fix:Improved detection of moved, edited, and replaced Smart Folder files, while preserving playback options and protecting newer media details from older background results.
Bug Fix:Preserved queue hierarchy, previews, and thumbnails during background updates, dragging, and queue-set changes. Improved large shuffled queue transitions.
Bug Fix:Explained Smart Folder access requests and prevented cancelled or unsuccessful requests from adding an unusable queue folder.
Bug Fix:Improved responsiveness when large Smart Folders update or remove many items, while preserving existing contents if a search exceeds the queue limit.
Bug Fix:Rebuilt Apple Photos browsing around the native main-loop lifecycle, with incremental album reads, clearer access and retry states, and linked-album updates that preserve active playback. Improved sandbox permission checks and cleanup after canceled Photos and Smart Folder imports.
Bug Fix:Reduced background Media Archive cache-checking overhead and corrected automatic Photos reconnection after a library becomes unavailable.
Bug Fix:Prevented stale media details from replacing information for updated downloads.
Bug Fix:Corrected playback and preview updates when a Smart Folder item changes between a picture and a movie.
